We are using an exciting resource called Jigsaw to support our children’s Personal Social and Health Education [PHSE].

Jigsaw PSHE is a comprehensive and completely original Scheme of Work for the whole Primary School from Reception through to Year 6. It brings together PSHE Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning. Bridport Primary has been involved in creating some of the resources so we know how relevant and exciting they are!

SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural) development opportunities are mapped throughout. All of these pieces of learning are brought together to form a cohesive picture, helping children to know and value who they are and understand how they relate to other people the world.

How does Jigsaw PSHE work?

Each class has a Jigsaw character with its distinctive colour and a chime bar to encouragement calmness, which you may already have heard about.

There are 6 Puzzles (half-term units of work) each with 6 Pieces (lessons)

Each Piece has two Learning Intentions: one is based on specific PSHE learning and one is based on emotional literacy and social skills. The new developments over our previous scheme mean that Jigsaw is relevant to children living in today’s world as it helps them understand and be equipped to cope with issues like body image, cyber and homophobic bullying, and internet safety.

Each class has talked about being together in a new class and devised their own charter for how to make their class a safe and happy place to learn and agreed their individual and group Rights and Responsibilities to make this possible. The learning includes understanding their place in the class, school and global community, as they go up through the school.
