Friends of Bridport Primary School

Friends Logo

Welcome to the Friends of Bridport Primary School Web page!

The Friends of Bridport Primary School are parents and teachers who want to help your children to have as enriched and rewarding a school experience as possible.  We come together to create a community that organises events to raise money for valuable activities and resources that the School’s budget cannot provide and that are not funded from other means.

We are always welcoming new Friends so come and get involved!!

Easter Raffle:

As you are all aware as with many similar events this year, the FOBPS are not able to hold the annual Easter Egg Hunt as we simply could not do this safely within social distancing requirements.  However, all is not lost and we want to continue to fundraise for your children so we are blasting our popular Easter Raffle into the 21st Century and going online!

Please buy your Raffle tickets by signing up to our FOBPS fundraising site: https://fobps.charityhive.co.uk/register

The First Prize of an Easter Hamper has been kindly donated by Morrisons, with many other exciting prizes donated by BPS families and local businesses.

See our social media pages and charity hive for more details.

The grand draw will be held on the last day of term, Thursday 1st April at 11am, lucky winners will be emailed and prizes will be available for collection / delivery at a mutually convenient location shortly afterwards!

To make the raffle extra special with as many prizes as possible we are asking for donations of prizes from BPS families please; this could be vouchers for an experience or service, gift sets, Easter food items (prepacked), toiletries, treats etc.  Please email bridportpsfriends@gmail.com and take any donations to the school office by Weds 31st March (we could collect from local addresses if this would be preferable).

Recent Successes:

The Christmas Raffle:  This raised over £400; an amazing amount for our first online raffle – a huge success with 30 prizes raffled off to lucky prize winners.  Thank you to everyone who bought tickets and donated prizes!

New to You Online: Because we all know how quickly children grow out of, or “weather” their uniform, the FOBPS keep a stock of good value used uniform items available for purchase at bargain prices (most £1 per item).  Items held include grey or black skirts, pinafore dresses and summer dresses, trousers and shorts, white polo shirts, PE t-shirts and green jumpers or cardigans – we even have a limited supply of footwear (plimsolls and school shoes).

This stall usually holds a regular slot outside of the school office once every half term but for now we have moved this service online, running throughout the term time, whenever it is needed.

We would like to invite you to request the uniform items you require via our email: bridportpsfriends@gmail.com
Please include the following information in your request:

  • Type of Uniform you require, to include colour / specifics where appropriate
  • Clothing size,
  • How many items required
  • Name and Class of your child

Marie or Leigh & Sam will be sorting through the New to You stock every Wednesday and sending the requested items out with your child though their classrooms on a Friday.

Payment can then be made through the online MCAS system.

(Unwanted items can then be returned to the Friends via the office if necessary)

Bag2School (Wednesday 19th May) A great opportunity to declutter and raise funds for the school at the same time!  Parents and friends of the school bag up unwanted clothing, shoes, bags etc and deliver to the carpark of school at morning drop off (currently using own bin bags).  This collection usually raises around £100 per collection; thank you to all who donated.

Next FOBPS Event:

To be confirmed!  We would love nothing more than to organise a good old knees up once we can safely do so; watch this space!

What are we raising money for this year?

Some of the things we are fundraising for this year include curriculum events, Christmas parties, Christmas gifts to KS1 and chocolate for KS2, Crackers for all children on Christmas Lunch day, Y6 Leavers Events & Gifts and any school trips and events that may be held in the coming school year!

We were delighted to have been able to make a donation to the Brandon’s Trail project; work starting on this area next to the Reception classes in the coming months!  In addition to all of this, we will be continuing with our donations to the School’s Playground Fund; the monies raised in previous years have already been put to good use in the outdoor classroom and path leading to it, resurfacing areas of the playground and buying various games and toys for use at playtimes.

Other new plans for this year?!

Just Giving Page; We’re raising money to help fundraise in lieu of the FOBPS events that have had to be cancelled during lockdowns and government restrictions on social interactions; please dig deep and donate something to the cause to help make up for lost events; perhaps see it as money you would have spent if we had all been able to enjoy our beloved events.  Any amount big or small will make a huge difference to your children’s school experience!  As always we will keep you posted with how your money is spent, watch this space!! Thank you.

“Give us a Coffee!” Could you spare the cost of a coffee just once a month?  We are asking the school community to consider donating a regular monthly amount to the FOBPS cause; a suggested amount of the cost of one coffee (£3.50); set up a standing order; email the address below for account details.

Easyfundraising donations; this is a great website where you can help FOBPS raise funds simply by doing your everyday online shopping!  Over 4,000 big name retailers are involved, such as Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, ASOS, eBay, Boden and M&S.
Every time you shop, we receive a small donation to say ‘thank you!’ It’s completely free and over £27M has been raised for causes just like us so far.  We want to raise as much as possible so please sign up and help us at https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/friendsofbridportprimaryschool/

The FOBPS Committee:

Stop us for a chat in the playground!

Chairperson; Marie Martin (Mum to Year 3 and Year 5 children)

Treasurer; Jacky Horniblow (Mum to Year 6 and Year 3 children)

Secretary; Sam Hansford (Mum to Year 3 and Reception children) – currently helped by husband Leigh when it comes to sorting New to You orders!

We are always looking for new Friends!

As awesome as our crew of regular helpers are, unfortunately in a school of almost 400 pupils this is nowhere near enough people to run the events that BPS parents and children have come to love and look forward to throughout the year – we really cannot stress how much we need new members as we move back into being able to organise events in the next 12 months; without more volunteers we will have to start reducing the events held by the FOBPS through the year.

we need you

It doesn’t matter how big or small you can contribute, we have something for everyone!  You can help even without leaving the house – donate school uniform, raffle prizes, wrap gifts from the Friends to KS1, give just one hour a year to help set up a Fair or give us two hours to man a stall or make a phone call to a contact to get a prize donated.

You don’t have to make a commitment and you can just help once, if that’s what you want to do – we are a friendly bunch who is simply enthusiastic about fundraising for our children and school community!

We often ask for help on the Friends’ Social Media page; “Like” and “Follow” the pages to hear about all of the Friends’ events and notices.
