Friends of Bridport Primary School
Welcome to the Friends of Bridport Primary School Web page!
The Friends of Bridport Primary School are parents and teachers who want to help your children to have as enriched and rewarding a school experience as possible. We come together to create a community that organises events to raise money for valuable activities and resources that the School’s budget cannot provide and that are not funded from other means.
We are always welcoming new Friends so come and get involved!!
As you are all aware as with many similar events this year, the FOBPS are not able to hold the annual Christmas Fair as we simply could not do this safely within social distancing requirements. However, all is not lost and we want to continue to fundraise for your children so we are blasting our popular Christmas Raffle into the 21st Century and going online!
Please buy your Raffle tickets by signing up to our FOBPS fundraising site: https://fobps.charityhive.co.uk/register
First Prize of Christmas Hampers donated by Waitrose and Morrison’s, with many other exciting prizes kindly donated by BPS families and local businesses
See our social media pages and charity hive for more details.
The grand draw will be held on the last day of term, Friday 18th December and prizes will be available for collection at the end of the school day or delivered / collected before Christmas.
To make the raffle extra special with as many prizes as possible we are asking for donations of prizes from BPS families please; this could be vouchers for an experience or service, gift sets, bottles of alcohol, Christmas food items (prepacked), toiletries, treats etc.
Please email email@example.com and take any donations to the school office by Weds 16th December (we could collect from local addresses if this would be preferable).
Weʼre raising money to help fundraise in lieu of the BPS Summer Fair and many other FOBPS events that have had to be cancelled since the school closed in March; please dig deep and donate something to the cause to help make up for lost events; perhaps see it as money you would have spent if we had all been able to enjoy our beloved events. Any amount big or small will make a huge difference to your children’s school experience in what is sure to be another very different year starting in Sept! As always we will keep you posted with how your money is spent, watch this space!! Thank you
The Year 6 & 5 Cake Stalls, Fri 4th Oct and Fri 8th Nov
The Cake Stall Cup will be awarded to the year group who have raised the most money at the end of the summer term; the current Year 2 are the reigning champions from last year!
The first cake stalls of this academic year set the profit bar at an all-time high for the two year groups. An enormous £127.70 was raised by Y6 and £104.61 by Y5; some impressive show-stopping bakes were presented to the stall, perhaps giving inspiration / healthy competition to future cake stall bakers?!!
Thank you to all who donated and helped to make the stall a massive success and we hope you enjoyed the yummy treats!
We need some new volunteers to keep these stalls running through the year and we will be asking for parents from each year group when it is their turn; contact us if you can help!
Bridport Round Table Fireworks (Sat 2nd Nov)
The FOBPS run a very popular Hot Chocolate and Cake stall at this event; this year we braved the elements after 24 hours of heavy storms and were rewarded for our efforts with a profit of £125. Thank you for the support of all our customers on the night, and for those keen bakers who kindly donated bakes for us to sell. Clipper Tea receive thanks for their donation of cups for the event.
New to You Stall (Wed 13th Nov) This stall holds a regular slot on the second Weds of each half term at school drop off (08:30 – 9:15am), selling preloved uniform at bargain prices. Please donate any good quality, used but clean uniforms to the school office at any time.
Bag2School (Thursday 21st Nov) A great opportunity to declutter and raise funds for the school at the same time! Parents and friends of the school bag up unwanted clothing, shoes, bags etc and deliver to the front of school at morning drop off. This collection raised a cool £88 for the FOBPS piggy bank; thank you to all who donated.
Next FOBPS Event:
Christmas Fair (Fri 6th Dec) Everyone loves a traditional Christmas Fair and this is exactly that! Art activities, choir performances, grand raffle, visit to Santa’s grotto, mulled wine, mince pies, games, face painting, tombola.. the list goes on!
We will be asking for helpers with getting the fair ready and running stalls after half term so be prepared to volunteer if you can! Each family is requested to donate items for the fair; tombola prizes, teddies, books, jolly jars, cakes, raffle prizes etc. Letters and raffle tickets have been sent out to families in the past couple of weeks.
Christmas Dress Down Friday Children and staff are invited to wear whatever they like to school on the day of the Christmas Fair, suggested donation £1.
FOBPS New Year Meeting (Thurs 16th Jan) Any excuse to meet in the pub! This is our next meeting to discuss the Spring Term events such as the Easter Fair and Live Music events; 7:30pm, venue tbc. Please do come along for a drink and a natter about any ideas we (and you) may have for the year!
What are we raising money for this year?
Some of the things we are fundraising for this year include curriculum events, subsidising travel costs for school trips to ensure every child can participate, Christmas parties, Crackers for all children on Christmas Lunch day, M&M Pantomime performances, improvement of EYFS facilities and main Learning Hub, equipment for the school hall and Y6 Leavers Events & Gifts.
In addition to all of this, we will be continuing with our donations to the School’s Playground Fund; the monies raised in previous years have already been put to good use in the outdoor classroom and path leading to it, resurfacing areas of the playground and buying various games and toys for use at playtimes. We will soon be able to announce some new equipment being installed in our playgrounds and many more exciting improvements to follow – watch this space!
Exciting new plans for this year?!
Extra School Disco (date tbc) Due to the popularity and success of the school discos we are working on adding a second disco to the calendar earlier in the year, sometime after Christmas so watch this space!
The return of the “Big Gig”? A chance for parents and teachers to let their hair down outside of the bounds of school! This was very popular when we held the Saturday night event at the Lyric in 2018 so we are planning a similar event in the New Year – date tbc.
A reinvention of the School Summer Event…. this is an exciting, top secret project with details to be confirmed, all in good time!!
“Give us a Coffee!” Could you spare the cost of a coffee just once a month? We are asking the school community to consider donating a regular monthly amount to the FOBPS cause; a suggested amount of the cost of one coffee (£3.50); set up a standing order; email the address below for account details.
Easyfundraising donations; this is a great website where you can help FOBPS raise funds simply by doing your everyday online shopping! Over 4,000 big name retailers are involved, such as Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, ASOS, eBay, Boden and M&S.
Every time you shop, we receive a small donation to say ‘thank you!’ It’s completely free and over £27M has been raised for causes just like us so far. We want to raise as much as possible so please sign up and help us at https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/friendsofbridportprimaryschool/
The FOBPS Committee:
Stop us for a chat in the playground!
Chairperson; Marie Martin (Mum to Year 2 and Year 4 children)
Vice Chairperson; Jewels Evans (Mum to Year 5 and Year 2 children)
Treasurer; Jacky Horniblow (Mum to Year 5 and Year 2 children)
Secretary; Sam Hansford (Mum to Year 2 child)
This year’s AGM saw an attendance of 11 people; this is a great turnout compared to recent years so thank you to all who attended and to those 9 parents who sent their apologies; attending meetings is not mandatory – we have many Friends who go to enormous lengths to help at events and/or lend their skills to the Friends in other ways such as helping with cake stalls, refreshments/stalls at fairs, advertising, asking local businesses for raffle donations, going shopping in preparation for events and the “New to you” team; Thank you all!!
We are always looking for new Friends!
As awesome as our crew of regular helpers are, unfortunately in a school of almost 400 pupils this is nowhere near enough people to run the events that BPS parents and children have come to love and look forward to throughout the year – we really cannot stress how much we need new members; without more volunteers we will have to start reducing the events held by the FOBPS through the year.
It doesn’t matter how big or small you can contribute, we have something for everyone! You can help even without leaving the house – donate school uniform, raffle prizes, wrap gifts from the Friends to KS1, give just one hour a year to help set up a Fair or give us two hours to man a stall or make a phone call to a contact to get a prize donated.
You don’t have to make a commitment and you can just help once, if that’s what you want to do.
We often ask for help on the Friends’ Social Media page; “Like” and “Follow” the pages to hear about all of the Friends’ events and notices.
If you can help or have any questions at all about the Friends, please do get in touch. We’d love to hear from you!
