Friends of Bridport Primary School
Welcome to the Friends of Bridport Primary School Web page!
The Friends of Bridport Primary School are parents and teachers who want to help your children to have as enriched and rewarding a school experience as possible. We come together to create a community that organises events to raise money for valuable activities and resources that the School’s budget cannot provide and that are not funded from other means.
We are always welcoming new Friends so come and get involved!!
Next FOBPS Event:
(Friday 27th May)
We have missed our regular cake stalls, so when better to bring them back than for the Queen’s Jubilee weekend! We will be holding a CASH cake stall outside the front of school from 3pm. Please get baking and bring in your yummy (nut free) cakes on the day.
With the return of parents spectating at sports day, the FOBPS will be providing a spectators refreshments stall (CASH ONLY), serving drinks throughout the day; please email us if you are able to help for any of the day!
We are planning a summer event a little different to those we have held in the past, with live music, BBQ, Bar, and lots of activities to keep the children entertained throughout the early evening within the school grounds. More information to follow after half term! Again, please email us if you are able to help any time after school – if you want to bring your children to help, they are most welcome provided they are supervised with you on a stall etc!
9am on the day – FOBPS are then paid per every kg donated!
Easter Hop! (Saturday 9th April)
Over 130 children and their families came and joined us to celebrate the start of the Easter holidays at the FOBPS Easter Hop! The event was an absolute joy to be involved with; the weather was kind, the smiles were wide, and we had endless fun with our guest of honour Peter Rabbit! We smashed all previous fundraising records for an Easter event by raising over £1,200; we couldn’t have done this without all the support from you, your friends and family, so thank you; we hope everyone enjoyed coming and joining in with the Easter trail, tombola, bash the bunny, egg & spoon race, cakes, crafts, and lots of cups of tea!
New to You Online:
As we move into the summer months, don’t forget the New to You; there are plenty of shorts and summer dresses available for the last few weeks of term. (£1 per item – bargain!).
Please request the uniform items you require via our email: firstname.lastname@example.org including the following information in your email:
• Type of Uniform you require, to include colour / specifics where appropriate
• Clothing size,
• How many items required
• Name and Class of your child
Items will be sent out with your child through their classrooms and payment can then be made through the online MCAS system.(Unwanted items can then be returned to the Friends via the office if necessary)
What are we raising money for this year?
Since the last newsletter at Christmas the FOBPS have pledged funds for:
School Trips: Years 1, 2 and 3 have enjoyed animal visits and trips out already this year, with costs of transport, entry fees etc subsidised by FOBPS funds.
Improvements / refresh to the school library; rotating bookcases, bean bags, tables etc are to all be purchased with help from FOBPS funds. This will help to make the library a comfortable, appealing place for the children to enjoy their reading.
Purchase of a defibrillator to be located at BPS: staff at the school have been trained this month on its use so FOBPS have pledged £599 to purchase one for the school as this can be used to provide lifesaving assistance to adults and children on site should an emergency ever arise.
Year 6 leavers celebrations: each year the FOBPS help to fund the Year 6 leaving treats and events, and this year is no different; details to be confirmed after half term.
Branden’s Trail Opening
The FOBPS were delighted to be able to donate £500 towards the project to rejuvenate Branden’s trail, developing the play area alongside the EYFS classrooms in memory of a little boy who sadly passed away in 2008 after battling cancer whilst he was a pupil at the school. The School Newsletter and the Local News have recently covered the exciting developments involving many community groups and volunteers and we were looking forward to seeing the finished project.
We hope all the children in the school enjoy getting the chance to explore and reflect amongst the plants and animals!
Other new plans for this year?!
Just Giving Page; We’re raising money to help fundraise in lieu of the FOBPS events that have had to be cancelled during lockdowns and government restrictions on social interactions; please dig deep and donate something to the cause to help make up for lost events; perhaps see it as money you would have spent if we had all been able to enjoy our beloved events. Any amount big or small will make a huge difference to your children’s school experience! As always we will keep you posted with how your money is spent, watch this space!! Thank you.
“Give us a Coffee!” Could you spare the cost of a coffee just once a month? We are asking the school community to consider donating a regular monthly amount to the FOBPS cause; a suggested amount of the cost of one coffee (£3.50); set up a standing order; email the address below for account details.
Easyfundraising donations; this is a great website where you can help FOBPS raise funds simply by doing your everyday online shopping! Over 4,000 big name retailers are involved, such as Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, ASOS, eBay, Boden and M&S.
Every time you shop, we receive a small donation to say ‘thank you!’ It’s completely free and over £27M has been raised for causes just like us so far. We want to raise as much as possible so please sign up and help us at https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/friendsofbridportprimaryschool/
The FOBPS Committee:
Stop us for a chat in the playground!
Chairperson; Sam Hansford (Mum to Year 4 and Year 1 children) – currently helped by husband Leigh when it comes to sorting New to You orders!
Treasurer; Jacky Horniblow (Mum to Year 4 child)
Secretary/Treasurer; Laura Walter (Mum to Year 3 and Reception children)
We are always looking for new Friends!
As awesome as our crew of regular helpers are, unfortunately in a school of almost 400 pupils this is nowhere near enough people to run the events that BPS parents and children have come to love and look forward to throughout the year – we really cannot stress how much we need new members as we move back into being able to organise events in the next 12 months; without more volunteers we will have to start reducing the events held by the FOBPS through the year.
It doesn’t matter how big or small you can contribute, we have something for everyone! You can help even without leaving the house – donate school uniform, raffle prizes, wrap gifts from the Friends to KS1, give just one hour a year to help set up a Fair or give us two hours to man a stall or make a phone call to a contact to get a prize donated.
You don’t have to make a commitment and you can just help once, if that’s what you want to do – we are a friendly bunch who is simply enthusiastic about fundraising for our children and school community!
We often ask for help on the Friends’ Social Media page; “Like” and “Follow” the pages to hear about all of the Friends’ events and notices.
If you can help or have any questions at all about the Friends, please do get in touch. We’d love to hear from you!
